Elyria, Ohio, resident begins Peace Corps service in Zambia

Matt Barr, 21, of Elyria, Ohio, has been accepted into the Peace Corps and will depart for Zambia June 8 to begin training as a health extension volunteer. Barr will live and work at the community level to raise awareness about health education, teaching basic nutrition and sanitation, prevention of non-communicable diseases, child and maternal health, oral re-hydration, and prevention of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Bridging cultures, replacing stereotypes will be a lifelong journey for Cleveland State alum in The Gambia

A degree in Environmental Studies from Cleveland State University provided Jessica Trnkus with the confidence and technical knowledge necessary to serve as an environmental volunteer in The Gambia. But in her first year and a half of service, she’s also learning about her personal values while replacing preconceptions with first-hand experiences that she’ll eventually share in her hometown of Lakewood, Ohio, and beyond.

Wellington, Ohio, resident begins Peace Corps service in Mozambique

Julia Ann Provoznik, 24, of Wellington, Ohio, has been accepted into the Peace Corps and will depart for Mozambique on May 29 to begin training as a nongovernmental organization advising volunteer. Provoznik will make a difference helping to create fundraising plans, raise public awareness of an NGO’s mission, and conduct community outreach to recruit, train, and motivate new volunteers.
