Drake University earns a spot on Peace Corps’ annual Top Schools list

CHICAGO – Drake University has made its debut on the Peace Corps’ annual Top Volunteer-Producing Colleges and Universities list, ranking No. 23 among small universities, the agency announced today. Currently, there are eight Drake alumni serving overseas as Peace Corps volunteers.

This is the first year that the university has made Peace Corps’ Top Colleges list. Since the agency was created in 1961, 269 Drake alums have served overseas.

“The Peace Corps is a unique opportunity for college graduates to put their education into practice and become agents of change in communities around the world,” Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet said. “Today’s graduates understand the importance of intercultural understanding and are raising their hands in record numbers to take on the challenge of international service.” Continue reading “Drake University earns a spot on Peace Corps’ annual Top Schools list”

St. Louis native begins Peace Corps service in Paraguay

Anna Chott, 22, of St. Louis has been accepted into the Peace Corps and will depart for Paraguay Sept. 22 to begin training as an agricultural extension volunteer. Chott will live and work at the community level assisting farmers and their families in understanding and implementing sustainable food production systems. She will also help identify resources that can be utilized to meet the community’s needs to increase food consumption and income generation.

“Being able to serve in the agriculture sector in Paraguay with the Peace Corps will be an exciting start to my career,” Chott said. “I also love to travel and learn new languages, and I am excited for the opportunity to perfect my Spanish and learn the indigenous language, Guarani.” Continue reading “St. Louis native begins Peace Corps service in Paraguay”
