Hickory Hills, Ill., native begins Peace Corps service in Peru

Ayle Olvera, 26, of Hickory Hills, Ill., has been accepted into the Peace Corps and departed for Peru May 6 to begin training as a community economic development volunteer. Olvera will live and work at the community level training and advising entrepreneurs and managers in business planning, marketing, financial management and product design.

Hinsdale, Ill., native begins Peace Corps service in Ecuador

Victoria “Tori” Sims, 23, of Hinsdale, Ill., has been accepted into the Peace Corps and will depart for Ecuador Jan. 27 to begin training as a secondary English education volunteer. Sims will live and work at the community level to make a difference training new and experienced teachers on current methodologies, subject content and resource development, thus creating sustainable improvements in teaching that will affect generations of future students. Her projects may include increasing local teachers’ English language competency and conversational skills and organizing teacher associations and training seminars.

McHenry, Ill., resident begins Peace Corps service in Guatemala

Sara Boro, 24, of McHenry, Ill., has been accepted into the Peace Corps and will depart for Guatemala June 18 to begin training as a youth development volunteer. Boro will make a difference conducting community-needs assessments and developing programs to teach at-risk youth about healthy lifestyles.
